WolfPack women's basketball wins first of year taking Bisons

Winnipeg, MB—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack are into the win column for the first time this young Canada West women’s basketball season. The Pack moved to 1-2 on the year with a 78-75 win over the host University of Manitoba Bisons on Remembrance Day (Nov 11).

SYNOPSIS

The WolfPack led 24-23 after the first quarter. But Manitoba outscored them 22-12 to lead 45-36 at half time. TRU was led by Emma Piggin (3rd year, guard, Kamloops, BC)who had 27 points and eight rebounds. Michelle Bos (3rd year, forward, Surrey, BC) added 13 points.  Manitoba’s top scorer was Nicole Konieczny with 24 points and six rebounds.

THOMPSON RIVERS

Emma Piggin 27 points, 8 rebounds (five on offense), two steals in 29 minutes

Michelle Bos 13 points, 2 rebounds in 29 minutes

Leilane Carney 12 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, in 35 minutes

Chelsey Hoey  7 rebounds (5 on offense) in 27 minutes.

MANITOBA:

Nicole Konieczny  24 points, 6 rebounds (five on defense) in 32 minutes

Emma Thompson 16 points 3 rebounds in 25 minutes

Brititania Pairisien 12 points in 25 minutes.

Turnovers:  TRU 16   Manitoba 17

RECORDS:

TRU 1-2   Manitoba 0-3

“Give full credit to Manitoba tonight. They came out and played with passion and shot the ball extremely well. We were on our heels all night. Tomorrow we need to do a better job on the defensive glass and control their penetration,” TRU head coach Scott Reeves says.

UP NEXT:

The two teams will wrap up their weekend series tomorrow night in Manitoba.

Thompson Rivers  will pay a visit to Edmonton, Alberta for two games against the Golden Bears next weekend while Manitoba will visit UBC.

Their next home game will be Friday, November 25th on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre. Tip off will be 6 pm against the UBCO Heat. The pre-game show will be on the air around 5:45 pm.

It will be their last home stand before the Christmas break.
