The evacuation alert for 18 homes on Westside Road due to a wildfire in the area was rescinded this afternoon and the road partially re-opened.

The Bald Range Creek Wildfire is now classified as being held but residents should remain vigilant, the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre said in a news release this afternoon, July 18.

With the change in status, the emergency centre has closed but remains on standby.

Westside Road is only open to single lane alternating traffic between Secret Cove and Bella Vista Estates.

BC Hydro has restored power to the area. Last night more than 1,000 customers were without electricity.

As of 2 p.m. today, BC Wildfire Service rated the fire as being held at 4.08 ha.

The cause is still under investigation.
