Wildfire growing away from Seymour Arm in Shuswap

FILE PHOTO

A wildfire threatening the small community of Seymour Arm on Shuswap Lake is growing away from structures.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reported today, July 21, there was growth on the Hunakwa Lake fire overnight to the north along the ridge away from communities.

The fire is still estimated at 1,100 hectares in size but that size has not been updated today by the wildfire service.

The fire is roughly nine kilometres southeast of Seymour Arm, which has a population of roughly 100 residents, according to 2016 Census data.

An evacuation alert remains in effect for the entire community and the fire is still classified as out of control.

For more information on the evacuation alert, visit the Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s website here.
