VERNON - No new growth is anticipated as the Gallon Creek wildfire that sparked east of Vernon Friday afternoon is now considered as being held.

Fire information officer Erika Berg confirmed the classification change Saturday, Aug. 31.

"We have five personnel on scene," Berg said of the continued effort to fight the 0.2-hectare blaze near Silver Star.

Berg said three initial attack crew members remain as well as two origin and case investigators. The fire is believed to be human-caused given the apparent lack of lightning or other natural ignition sources.

"We're looking into this," Berg said.

A bird dog was called in Friday afternoon for overhead surveillance. Friday saw a six-member crew battling the blaze.
