More than 30 communities across the country will take part in the 2022 Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game this weekend, including Kelowna.

The Kelowna Ultimate Players Society will be hosting the fundraising Ultimate Frisbee game at City Park on Saturday, June 11, according to a media release.

Art Hawkins was an influential and respected member of the Vancouver Ultimate League for more than 20 years before his death in 2010. He is considered a pioneer of the fast-paced sport.

Teams try to move a Frisbee down a field and points are scored by getting into the end zone.

The communities participating in the nationwide event will be split into two teams and vie for the highest cumulative score.

Money raised will go to programs that support accessibility to the sport. The money collected in Kelowna will be donated to the Art Hawkins Development Fund.
