He really doesn’t want to, but a Kelowna man is trying to sell a rare item, a seven-foot statue of the goat — not a goat but THE goat (greatest of all time) — basketball legend Michael Jordan.
He’s had his eye on it for years, and considers himself lucky enough to get it in the first place, but, well, life changes.
“Basically me and my girlfriend are moving to a new place and it was almost a deal breaker that Michael Jordan can’t come with,” he says. “I know I'm going to regret selling it but at the end of the day, I'd rather live with the wife than live with Michael Jordan.”
He hasn’t had the statue that long — a friend has been storing it in his garage for the last few months — but he has coveted it for years. He first saw it as the most unusual adornment for Holiday Park in Lake Country. He couldn’t understand why it was there.
“I was dropping my little sister off at a pool party and I drove by the park there, and then I looked over to my left and I was like, ‘is that a seven-foot Michael Jordan?’ And sure enough, I pulled the car over and in the park, there was like a life-size Michael Jordan.”
So, he bought it.
As the guy who runs the Kelowna Flea Market on Sundays, Tim Reimer knows a thing or two about rare items and this does appear to be rare. It has a misprinted number and plenty of intrigue.
He waited for years and when it finally appeared for sale, he snapped it up, apparently without any idea where he would keep such a large item.
He has it up for sale for $5,000 — also part of the compromise that has it up for sale to begin with.
“I don’t want to sell it for $5,000, to be honest,” Reimer said. “That’s just enough to keep the wife happy, it’s not enough for me. I'm getting messages from people all around. Some people love it, some people are laughing at it, some people are saying it's scary. So it's quite a mixture of people there and some people are making offers on it.
“I'd imagine if a lot more men out there were single, I'd already have a buyer for this.”
