Where to find Thompson Okanagan all-candidates forums and mayoral debates for this election

Municipal election season is here and residents can ask questions and watch their candidates live at forums leading up to the election.

Here’s where you can watch your local candidates:

Kelowna

Rutland Residents Association

The Rutland Residents Association is hosting its third municipal all-candidates forum on Sept. 28 at Hollywood Rd Education Centre Gym (1040 Hollywood Rd S) from 6 to 8 p.m. All Kelowna Municipal Candidates for Mayor and for Council have been invited.

Each candidate will have a table assigned to them to display their information and to talk individually with voters who can ask questions important to them. Voters will be able to go from table to table connecting with candidates as they wish.

The Rutland Residents Association is also working on a questionnaire for the candidates to be emailed and responded to prior to the event. They are accepting questions from the public to add to this questionnaire and questions can be sent to vicepresident@rutlandresidentsassociation.ca.

Okanagan College and UBCO

A Kelowna mayoral debate held by Okanagan College and UBC Okanagan will also be held Sept. 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the college’s S104 Lecture Theatre in the Student Services Building. The debate will focus on housing affordability, community and student safety, diversity in a growing population, truth and reconciliation, climate change and the future of Kelowna.

Admission is free, but registration is required as space is limited. Register online through the college’s website.

West Kelowna

Greater Westside Board of Trade

Greater Westside residents are being invited to attend an all-candidates forum Oct. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lions Hall in West Kelowna. The event is free and open to everyone but registration is required ahead of time. More information can be found through the Greater Westside Board of Trade website.

Lake Country

Oceola Fish and Game Club

Lake Country residents can see candidates debate Wednesday night, Sept. 21, at the Oceola Fish and Game Club, starting at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Penticton

Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce

The Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce is hosting an all-candidates forum Sept. 20 at the Penticton Seniors Drop In Centre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All are welcome but registration is required.

Vernon

Sustainable Environment Network Society and Climate Action Now!

The Sustainable Environment Network Society and Climate Action Now! are co-sponsoring a live and Facebook live-streamed Environmental All Candidates Forum at Vernon’s Performing Arts Centre Sept. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m.

There is a possibility of an additional afternoon session depending on the number of candidates.

Kamloops

Council of Canadians Kamloops Chapter

The Council of Canadians Kamloops Chapter is hosting a forum Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Kamloops’ Farmers Market. Locals can also meet and speak with candidates if they arrive early around  8 a.m.

Tourism Kamloops

Tourism Kamloops is also hosting a mayoral forum at The Blue Grotto Sept. 26 which will also be broadcast on Tourism Kamloops’ social media sites. The focus will be on tourism in the region.

CFJC and the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce

CFJC and the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce are hosting a mayoral forum on Oct. 4 at TRU’s Grand Hall. Residents will have the opportunity to meet local candidates at 6:15 p.m. before a moderated debate at 7 p.m.

Canadian Home Builders' Association Central Interior

A free dinner and candidates forum is being held by the Canadian Home Builders' Association Central Interior, Oct. 12 at the Colombo Lodge starting at 5:30 p.m.

The cost for guests of those with a membership is $45 and its $55 for the regular public.

Registration is required beforehand and more information can be found through the association's website.
