Westsyde pool delayed by months, not weeks

KAMLOOPS - Westsyde will be without a pool for at least a couple more months.

It’s still unclear how long the delay will be, after the wrong panels were installed as part of renovations, but the City of Kamloops capital projects manager Darren Crundwell expects it to be months, not weeks, before it can be reopened to the public.

“We’ve given the consultant and contractor of Tuesday to get back to us,” Crundwell says.

The project was scheduled to be done in February, ideally in time for Family Day, but it has been delayed after the contractor installed the wrong panels. Currently the correct panels are still being sourced, Crundwell says, which is why no fixed completion date can be set.

The city will not have to pay for the delay, and is sticking with the original renovation plan it agreed to at the start of renovations.

“Our position is firm with the contractor and consultant,” he says. “We want what was specified, we’re not going to change that position.”
