WestJet is increasing its flight options in August, serving 39 Canadian cities plus a number of international destinations.
Starting July 16, its schedule includes flights between Kamloops and Calgary once a day, Kelowna and Vancouver once a day, Kelowna and Calgary three times a day and between Kelowna and Edmonton six times a week, states a WestJet news release.
It will also have flights going to U.S. destinations, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, including Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Orlando in the U.S., Cancun in Mexico and Montego Bay in Jamaica.
This will be a 10 per cent increase in the number of flights WestJet is offering compared to July but is still 75 per cent less than last year.
"With the many safeguards and procedures in place, we are certain Canadians can safely resume travel to destinations across our network," Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet chief commercial officer said in the news release.
Schedule changes also include reduced fights between some Canadian locations because of different travel restrictions across Canada. Those take effect from July 16 to Sept. 4 and include elimination of Kelowna-Victoria twice daily fights and Toronto-Kelowna once daily.
"The patchwork of domestic travel restrictions and quarantine periods that are currently in place within our own borders are severely limiting Canada's economic recovery and putting hundreds of thousands of jobs in our critical industry at risk," von zur Muehlen said in release. "We must standardize intra-provincial travel advice to ensure Canadians can move safely and freely across our country."
