A Westbank man has won one million dollars playing the lottery.

Malery Messer purchased the winning Lotto 6/49 ticket from Walmart on Louie Drive, and used the store’s self-checker to discover he was the winner of a $1 million Guaranteed Prize, according to a press release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

“This win means being able to do the things we’ve always dreamed of doing and being able to share it with family,” Messer said in the release.

“I had tears in my eyes. I couldn’t believe it and I could barely speak. I was too excited.”

Messer first broke the news with his wife.

“She was so shocked,” he said.

The win means Messer will be enjoying more travel in the future, with his first stops being in Hawaii and Alaska.

He also plans on donating some of his prize to cancer research and also share with family.
