West Kelowna will elect a new mayor tomorrow

WEST KELOWNA - One thing is guaranteed about the outcome of tomorrow’s municipal election in West Kelowna – there will be a new mayor.

What isn’t clear is whether there will be two former mayors elected to council.

Doug Findlater stepped down as mayor after leading the new city for most of its life, first being elected mayor in 2008. But he’s running for a seat on council.

Incumbent Coun. Rosalind Neis is running for re-election. She served as West Kelowna mayor for its first year, in 2007.

Running to replace Findlater at the helm is Gord Milsom, who served as a councillor from 2007-14 before stepping back to focus on his business. He’s opposed by Mario Mandarino who has no council experience.

Five of the six incumbent councillors are running for re-election. If Findlater can be called an incumbent that the general principal of incumbents usually getting re-elected, there may be no real change to council, other than the mayor.

Still, 10 others are trying to make it onto council.
