KELOWNA - For the first time ever, the West Kelowna Warriors Junior A Hockey team will be leading the parade at Westside Daze July 13 in West Kelowna and they're offering to trade gifts.

The team will be distributing two free game vouchers to anyone who donates food to the Central Okanagan Food Bank at the parade. The vouchers are valued at $32.

Local kids, parents and home town player Jake Harrison will also help to collect donations along the parade route.

"The food bank is an organization that is close to my heart,” said Warriors owner Kim Dobranski in a press release. "Growing up in Regina during the 80s I had to use the service of the food bank on many occasions as I tried to navigate the challenges of living on my own at a young age.”

Dobranski stresses that many of the people who use the food bank are misjudged, and that breaking the stigma around the food bank is crucial.

"Let’s remove the stigma of the food bank and support those in the community who need a little help,” Dobranski said. "You never know, they may one day own a hockey club and use it as a vehicle to give back."
