West Kelowna girl followed by stranger in van while walking home from school

West Kelowna RCMP are investigating after a 12-year-old girl was followed by a stranger in a van this week.

This is the second incident of this nature reported to the RCMP in the Central Okanagan in recent days, the first student was approached by a man in a black van while walking home from a Rutland elementary school, Jan 4.

On Jan. 5, at approximately 3:40 p.m., a 12-year-old girl was walking home from Glenrosa Middle School on Country Pines Way in West Kelowna when she noticed a vehicle which was travelling behind her at a slow pace. The girl became concerned and ran home, according to the RCMP in a media release.

The van was described as a white, larger passenger van and the driver was a middle-aged man with a round face and greying brown hair.

“We are actively investigating this incident,” says staff Sgt. Duncan Dixon of the West Kelowna RCMP, in the press release. “The intentions of the driver are not known, but we are cautioning the public to be vigilant.”
