West Kelowna fire may linger for awhile; risk is low

There’s no way to tell when the Rose Valley dam fire will be completely doused, but for now it's being held.

“That means we don’t expect it to spread, due to weather and fire suppression tactics,” said Taylor MacDonald, fire information officer, for B.C. Wildfire Service.

MacDonald said it’s still at three hectares, and 24 personnel are still on the fire.

“There’s some possibility of smoke showing in the area, but it is being held,” she said.

Some of the success with this fire has to do with the resources applied to it. The first day the fire broke out, Aug. 2, West Kelowna fire department was on scene.

The cause is still unknown.
