WEST KELOWNA - Firefighters quickly knocked down a suspicious fire that burned three cars last night before it could spread to a nearby car wash.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue crews responded to the fire at 7:45 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 30, at a car wash on Old Okanagan Highway.

Fire crews from the Westbank and Lakeview Heights stations we able to keep the fire outside the building.

Fire chief Jason Brolund says his department's investigation has concluded and the cause of the fire is suspicious.

"The fire appears to have originated in one of the cars on the exterior of the building," Brolund says in the release. "Investigators found indications of an attempted theft of fuel present at the scene."

He says the investigation has been turned over to RCMP.
