PENTICTON - With some excellent fall weather forecast for the weekend, it’s a good time to take in one of nature’s fall spectacles as the annual salmon run returns to the Okanagan River in Oliver.

The Okanagan Nation Alliance and the Okanagan Similkameen Conservation Alliance host the Celebrate Our Salmon open house at the Okanagan River restoration initiative site located just north of Oliver on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Okanagan River Restoration Initiative worker Lee McFadyen says there should be lots of opportunity to view spawning salmon at the site, which will have interpreters on hand to talk about the salmon life cycle and efforts being made to restore their spawning habitat.

He says more than 151,028 sockeye have passed through the Fish Passage Centre at Wells Dam in Washington State this year, the last dam on the Columbia River before fish turn to go up the Okanogan River, as it's spelled in the U.S.

Parking is available at the Oliver Visitor Centre at 6431 Station Street in Oliver. For more information you can call Jayme Friedt at 250-492-5275.

Cowork Penticton presents the film “Bikes vs. Car" at the Cowork facility at 129 Nanaimo Ave. W in Penticton from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct.12. The documentary depicts a global crisis about climate, earth’s resources, and cities where the entire surface is consumed by the car.

The Okanagan Vintage Fair takes place at the Shatford Centre on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The fair has more than 30 tables of vintage treasures, including collectibles, clothing, jewellery, small furniture, comics, vinyl and vintage-inspired crafts. Admission is $2.

It’s another afternoon of Flying Destruction fun at Penticton Speedway on Carmi Avenue. This week’s event gets underway Sunday at 2 p.m. There will also be street stocks, hornets racing and hit to pass events. For more details, see the Penticton Speedway webpage here.
