Weather warmer but still dry for Kamloops, Okanagan this week

The Christmas “cold snap” that hit Kamloops and the Okanagan over the weekend is giving way to unseasonably warm weather heading towards the New Year.

Kamloops got down to -4.9 Celsius on Dec. 23 before rising to 4.4 C yesterday, Dec. 25.

The high temperature in Kamloops is forecast to reach 5 C today through Wednesday before dropping to 3 C on the weekend. Overnight lows are forecast to be in the 0 C to 2 C range, according to the Environment Canada online forecast.

Normal highs for this time of year in Kamloops are -0.9 C with overnight lows of – 7.2 C.

There is a 30% chance of showers tomorrow, rising to 60% in the evening but sunny skies are forecast for the rest of the week.

The Okanagan got down to the – 5.5 C range overnight on Dec. 23 and 24.

Daytime highs through the coming week are forecast to be in the 1 C to 2 C range for the North and Central Okanagan with Penticton expected to get up to 5 C tomorrow.

Overnight lows could get down to – 3 C.

There’s a 30-40% chanced of flurries or snow over the next two days with clearing skies later in the week.

Even the highway passes are experiencing warm temperatures with just a few flurries forecast for the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops.

There could be as much of 5 cm of snow on the Coquihalla Summit between Hope and Merritt with rain below the 1,100 metre mark until noon.
