OKANAGAN - Canada Day long weekend is set to begin and Mother Nature looks to be cooperating again this year.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures in the low-30s throughout the Okanagan this weekend, beginning with a high of 31 Celsius today, June 30.
The mercury is expected to reach a high of 29 C in Kelowna and Pentiction on Canada Day with Vernon forecast just below that at 28 C. Highs of 29 C or 30 C are expected the rest of the weekend. The seasonal normal for this time of year in the Okanagan Valley is 25 C. A mix of sun and cloud is also expected throughout the weekend.
This warm, but not scorching forecast, will allow those participating in outdoor Canada Day festivities to have fun in the sun, without having to combat the problems that come with weather in the high-30s.
Stay safe in the sun and consider these tips from The Government of Canada:
-
Cover up with long sleeve clothing and hats.
-
Limit time outside. Seek places with shade.
-
Always check the UV index.
-
Use sunscreen.
-
Stay hydrated and drinking water.
