Warm weather expected to give way to a cooler Easter weekend in the Okanagan

Today is a good day to enjoy a social-distance stroll outside as Environment Canada calls for a high of 20 Celsius and mostly sunny skies in the Okanagan.

Get ready for some sunshine and then some Good Friday showers.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says today's sunny skies and a high of 20 C in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton will give way to a cold front expected to move across the Okanagan tomorrow afternoon, bringing more clouds, possible showers and a drop in temperatures for Saturday and Sunday.

Today's high is a comfortable temperature for this time of year, but Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says it won’t likely break high-temperature records in the valley.

“We’re not really close to records, we would have to get above 22 C to 25 C to see that,” he says.

It’s even less spring-like back east, where in Ontario, the Weather Network says parts of southern Ontario could see 3 to 5 cm of snow tomorrow. with a late weekend storm on the way that could bring heavy snow to northern parts of the province and rain and strong winds to the south on Sunday and Monday.

Today's sunny Okanagan skies will come with a high of 20 C and a low tonight of 4 C under clear skies.

Clouds and a 30 per cent chance of showers are expected Friday with winds becoming northwest at 20 km/h in the afternoon.

Friday’s high is expected to reach 16 C with a low to 3 C.

Cooler temperatures should accompany the sunny skies expected to return on Saturday.

Saturday and Sunday’s high of 9 C should be replaced with warmer air returning by Monday.

Saturday night could see temperatures dip to -3 C, and -1 C on Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday should be sunny with highs of 16 C, 17 C and 18 C respectively, along with overnight lows to 1 C.
