KAMLOOPS - Organizational changes within Walmart means cleaning staff will have to reapply for their jobs to work for a third party, or submit their applications for a different position with the company.

Manager of corporate affairs for Walmart Canada Anika Malik says the change will affect employees nationwide.

Walmart has contracted the cleaning of its stores to Modern Cleaning Concept. The change is expected to roll out by April.

Malik says 10 employees at the Kamloops store and 11 in Kelowna will be affected. She says they must apply with the new cleaning company.

“If they do not wish to transfer, they will be considered for another position with Walmart if they choose to apply,” she says.

While Malik says while those workers will be given first priority, they are not guaranteed a job.

Walmart Canada has 400 retail stores with nearly 90,000 employees.
