Weekly Volunteer Highlights for January 17, 2017 – January 24, 2017

Special Events & Seasonal Programs:

Oncore Seniors Society
Snow Angels Volunteers- Oncore Seniors Society needs volunteers in all areas of our community to shovel snow for seniors registered through our program. Each time a Snow Angel shovels they will receive a coupon from Dominos for a free pizza.  Volunteers have a 24 hour window to shovel only the driveway and front sidewalk. Must be reliable and hardworking. For more details please contact their office at 250-828-0600.

Beattie Elementary
Basketball Referee - Beattie Elementary school is looking for volunteers to referee elementary basketball games. The games take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30pm. Volunteers should be energetic, willing to learn, and aged 14+. For more information, please contact 250-377-2242 or blloyd@sd73.bc.ca.

Ask Wellness Society
Volunteer Driver - Volunteers will pick up food hampers for chronically ill clients who are eligible monthly for a hamper. A valid driver's licence and good running vehicle is required. The volunteers should be 19+ and have a clean criminal record. For more information, please call 250-376-7558 ext. 231, or email jennifer@askwellness.ca.

Chamber Musicians of Kamloops
Core Volunteers- Chamber Musicians of Kamloops is looking for some core volunteers for their performances through the year. Volunteers will help set up and take down for special events and performances, and operate a video system/camera for the performances. They should be organized and physically fit, people friendly and have a good attitude. All ages are welcome, but volunteers younger than 19 need to volunteer with a responsible adult. Ask Wellness Society
Donation Organizer- Ask Wellness Society is urgently looking for volunteers to assist with organizing the many donations received in the donation and laundry room. Volunteers should have good organizational skills, and be available twice a week for 2-4 hours between 8:30 and 4:30pm. Overlander Residential Care
Volunteers are needed for the Volunteer Office- Some of the duties are tabulating hours, photocopying, assist with orientation preparation, distribute and take down posters on site for special events (Christmas, Easter) assist with Volunteer Appreciation, mail outs, filing, etc. Volunteer must be reliable, responsible, attention to detail, previous office or bookkeeping experience preferred, organized and patient. Shifts: morning at 9:00am - 11:30am or afternoon at 1:00pm - 4:00pm. The available shifts at the moment are Thursday & Fridays in 9:00am - 11:30am. 19+ to volunteer. Board Members - This is new opportunity for a spirited and innovative person to contribute to a non-profit that is part of the backbone of this community. Canadian Mental Health Association
Board Member- The CMHA is the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. CMHA-Kamloops facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness. We are accepting applications for new directors of the Board and are particularly in need of people with expertise in human resources, fundraising and Aboriginal mental health services. Board meetings are held every two months and directors are asked to commit to additional committee and event participation. Please contact 250-828-0355.

New Life Community Kamloops
Kitchen Helper - Volunteers needed to peel and prepare vegetables, cut up desserts, organize and sort the fridge, sort bread, sweep floors, dish washing and clean up. Janitorial assistance is also needed for light general maintenance of the day room and kitchen, i.e. sweeping and mopping the floors, cleaning the bathroom and mirrors, etc. 16+ to volunteer. Free Office Phones- Volunteer Kamloops has recently had a donation of RCA office phones that are available for anyone to pick up. The phones have 4 lines, and are gently used-only 2 years old. If any businesses need phones for the office, feel free to give us a call at 250-372-8313.
