Just in time for this year’s recreational salmon fishery on Osoyoos Lake, Tyson Marsel with GTZ Outdoors has come out with a YouTube video on the subject.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced a recreational salmon fishery on Osoyoos Lake earlier this month.

The fishery opens July 31 for the portion of the lake north of the bridge on Highway 3.

Marsel, who is a First Nations fisherman, emphasizes the need to understand the regulations as they apply to you, because the recreation fishery and the First Nations fishery have different rules.

The informative video explains some of the regulatory differences, talks about this year’s heavy run, and discusses the best methods for catching salmon on Osoyoos Lake.

A review of the fishery is scheduled to take place Aug. 12 to determine its duration.
