KELOWNA - A rare and very large military airplane did two passes south of Kelowna as part of a training mission today.
The Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 Globemaster is the largest transport aircraft used by the Canadian military. At 174' long, the Globemaster III has a wingspan of roughly 170'.
It was first spotted over Kelowna headed south at around 3 p.m.
Kelowna International Airport spokesperson Jasmine Patrick says it's a treat to have such a large plane in the area, even if it is flying only a few thousand feet above the city.
"It's huge and it was definitely low," she says.
The plane and crew are training in the area but Patrick says only two passes were planned.
