VIDEO: Flooding pushes Cache Creek into state of emergency

CACHE CREEK - Flooding has forced the Village of Cache Creek to declare a state of emergency as area residents deal with road closures and water flowing through the streets.

The mayor of Cache Creek, John Ranta, signed a state of local emergency yesterday evening, Apr. 27, 2018.

The state of emergency is expected to stay in place for seven days, Ranta said in a phone interview.

Today people are volunteering to sandbag around the town from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Highway 1 is closed in both directions at Spences Bridge because of the wash out at Cache Creek, according to drivebc.ca. There is currently no estimated time of opening.

Local traffic can get to Spences Bridge or to Lillooet via Highway 12. Industrial traffic must detour via Highway 5 in Hope.
