Vernon's Canada Day celebration packed with activity

Extreme motocross high flying, jumping and flipping will amaze the crowd at Vernon's Canada Day celebrations in Polson Park, Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

VERNON - Celebrations are set for Canada Day in Vernon’s Polson Park Sunday.

The North Okanagan Canada Day Society has been working tirelessly for months to set the stage for an amazing celebration of Canada’s 151st birthday on July 1.

The free activities kick off in the park at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. with the official opening ceremonies and cake cutting at 1 p.m.

“We are excited to announce extreme motocross, ATV rides and a freestyle skateboard competition are back again, and new this year will be the first annual bicycle and scooter decorating contest and parade,” says Canada Day society president Dave Frost. Kids are encouraged to decorate their wheels old school style to show off their Canadian pride.

Youngsters will delight in the Bubbleman and Dream Party Productions’ princesses.

“The Kidzone shaded area will have chalk art, skipping ropes, hula hoops and a big checker game,” says Cindy Blatny with the society.

A fantastic line up of stage events as well as food vendors, dunk tank, mini golf, military display by the B.C. Dragoons and carnival games presented by Emmanuel Baptist Church. Great stage entertainment continues throughout the day.

FMX Extreme Motor Cross competitor Reagan Sieg will wow the crowd with two shows; 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. taking onlookers’ breath away with his highflying jumps, flips and tricks.

Fireworks, sponsored by Craftsman Collision, make a bang at 10:30 p.m. at Kin Beach to music on Beach Radio.

“Established in 2016, the North Okanagan Canada Day Society is a non-profit organization specializing in creating unforgettable Canada Day celebrations for the citizens of the North Okanagan,” says Frost, who would like to thank the sponsors; iNFOnews.ca, Craftsman Collision, Pinnacle Renewable Energy, City of Vernon, Sandy Collision, Brown’s Social House and Beach Radio.

10:00 a.m. - Sadok Ukrainian Dancers
11:00 a.m. - Armonia
11:45 p.m. - Chinese Rejoicing Team
12:15 p.m. - Kids bike parade
12:45 p.m. - Kalamalka Highland Pipe Band
1:00 p.m. - Opening Ceremonies: Colour Party, dignitaries, speeches
1:15 p.m. - Singing of O’ Canada (Shaughnesey Rose) in English and French (cake cutting, Stage 2)
1:45 p.m. - Shaughnesey Rose
2:30 p.m. - Fiddler and the Keys (Old Time Music, Dance)
3:30 p.m. - Lief David, Magician

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Dump Runz dunk tank with special guests
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - ATV, dirt bike and off-road vehicle static displays on East end of track
