Vernon waterslides open July 1; three new slides coming this year

Vernon's waterslides will have three new slides this year.

Splashdown Vernon opens on Canada Day, July 1, with the new slides opening sometime this season.

The three slides called Aqua Rush will feature a "massive" free-fall slide along with two fully enclosed tube slides that will twist and curve around the free-fall slide before spitting you out at the bottom.

"Then you climb out, run up the hill and do it again," Splashdown Vernon owner Chris Steunenberg told iNFOnews.ca. "It's pretty awesome."

Steunenberg said the slides were supposed to be ready for opening day, but supply issues have delayed construction. However, Steunenberg said the slides will open part way through the season.

Steunenberg, who also owns Cultus Lake Waterpark, bought was then Atlantis Waterslides in 2019 and renamed the park Splashdown Vernon the following year.

Along with the new slides, the waterpark has also introduced VIP Cabanas where guests can reserve spaces that accommodate six to 10 people and cost between $65 and $95 per day.

As for the new slides the 57-year-old says you're never too old to try out a new waterslide no matter how big and frightening it may look.

"I try them out. I can't send a customer down if you don't try them out yourself, you've got to be able to say from your heart that this is an amazing ride," he said.

Vernon Splashdown runs from July 1 to Sept. 4. For more information and to buy tickets go here.
