The City of Vernon is welcoming an impending audit by the Auditor General for Local Government.
The audit will assess how the city acquires a broad range of goods and services for programs to the public.
Catherine Lord, acting Vernon Mayor says the city welcomes the review.
“In June of last year (2012), the City of Vernon sent a letter to MLA Eric Foster asking him to encourage the Minister’s office to place Vernon in the forefront of the audit process for local governments," Lord says in a media release. "We are pleased to learn that we have been selected. Council’s objective is to make sure the city services that we deliver are using best practices. We are looking for the support and advice of the Auditor General’s office, through this audit, to continue to enhance our service delivery to the citizens of Vernon.”
The city will soon be receiving more detail describing the approach to the audit. Meetings with local government and the Auditor General’s office will follow in mid-June with the audit to be completed through the summer.
