VERNON - A North Okanagan home was destroyed by fire this morning leaving residents scrambling to find a place to live.

The fire broke out today, Jan. 12, at a residence on Old Kamloops Road. The BX-Swan Lake Fire Department confirmed it is at the scene, battling the blaze in freezing weather.

A photo posted online by someone who identified as a resident of the home shows smoke billowing out of the roof and a pile of salvaged belongings on the front lawn.

The resident posted, ‘we just lost our home in a house fire and have nowhere to go.’ They are are looking to secure a rental, preferably on an acreage, as soon as possible.

More to come.
