A man was punched until he was unconscious and fell into the lake off the pier at Kal Beach in Coldstream last night.
The attacker then continued to assault others at the beach on Kalamalka Lake yesterday, July 5, at around 8 p.m. while some people helped the victim out of the water, according to an RCMP media release.
When Vernon North Okanagan RCMP arrived and tried to arrest the attacker in the parking lot he ran toward a nearby train trestle.
He was in a highly agitated state standing at the top of the trestle and threatened to kill police.
Failing to verbally calm the man, officers used what police refer to as a “conducted energy weapon” that incapacitated the suspect so he could be safely arrested.
A 27-year-old Vernon man has been kept in custody pending a court appearance, RCMP said. One victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Anyone who has information on the incident is asked to call Const. Stephanie Buchanan at the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP non-emergency line at 250-545-7171.
