Vernon RCMP on lookout for car theft suspect involved in hit and run

Vernon RCMP are on the hunt for a car theft suspect involved in a hit and run yesterday morning.

Police say at around 10:15 a.m. yesterday, March 11, officers responded to a motor vehicle incident involving two vehicles, one of which was stolen.

Witnesses reported that a red Kia was travelling at high speed north on Pleasant Valley Road when it collided with a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction, according to a Vernon RCMP media release. The Kia then hit a pole and the driver fled from the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as a tall man with a slender build and faded haircut wearing a grey hoodie and black ball cap.

"Our front line officers requested the assistance of the Police Dog Service section," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release. "Despite initiating a dog track, the suspect could not be located."

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The registered owner of the Kia reported to police the vehicle had been stolen and the police continue to investigate.
