Vernon RCMP nab suspects in stolen vehicle, weapons seized

Vernon RCMP seized weapons, drugs and cash after a brief chase on Monday afternoon.

Vernon RCMP have arrested two suspects after locating a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon.

RCMP say on Feb. 1, an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle that had been reported stolen from a neighbouring community.

The vehicle was parked outside a residence on 24th Avenue where the officer waited to find two people leave the house and drive off in the vehicle, according to an RCMP media release.

As the officer attempted to pull them over, the driver manoeuvred to evade police.

"Officers contained the vehicle," Vernon RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. "When the vehicle became disabled, the male driver attempted to escape on foot."

After a short chase, the driver, a 27-year-old Vernon man, was arrested. The passenger, a 36-year-old Vernon woman, was also arrested.

Weapons, cash and drugs were seized from the vehicle.

The suspects are facing potential charges and have been released from custody while the investigation continues.
