NORTH OKANAGAN - Police are releasing video surveillance from two robberies over the holidays.

Police were called shortly after 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 for a report of an armed robbery at the Petro Canada Gas Station at 6320 Highway 6 in Lavington, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release.

A lone man entered the store and demanded cash from the employee, while producing what appeared to be a wrench or tool, Brett says. The employee complied and the man fled in a dark-coloured vehicle with a small amount of cash.

“Vernon RCMP Members responded to the scene and were provided with a description of the male and vehicle he fled in,” Brett says. “Unfortunately the suspect and vehicle were not located, however the employee was smart, complied with the male’s demands and remained unharmed in this incident.”

On Jan.1, just before 9 p.m., police responded to another robbery that had just taken place at the Super Save Gas Station at 4218 25 Ave. in Vernon. A lone man entered the store, produced what the employee believed to be a handle of a gun and demanded all the money from the till, Brett says. The employee complied with the demands and the suspect fled in a dark coloured SUV.

“Both incidents are still under investigation at this time,” Brett says. “There is good video surveillance from both robberies and the investigators are still trying to determine if the robberies are connected. At this time we are treating both incidents as separate occurrences and have yet to determine if the suspect is the same person.”

The suspect in the Petro-Can robbery is described as Caucasian, between 35 and 45 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a black jacket with a hood and baggy blue jeans. He had a small patch of hair on his chin.

The suspect in the Super Save incident is described as Caucasian, approximately 35 to 45 years old, and wearing a black neoprene hooded jacket and a half ski mask.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online.
