VERNON - RCMP are looking for a man who was caught on camera witnessing an assault in Polson Park nearly three weeks ago.

Police were called to the park around 7:40 a.m. on May 11 for an assault near the wishing well, but it appears the assault began with 'willful damage to park property,' according to a release from Vernon RCMP spokesperson Dan Moskaluk.

"Investigators are continuing their investigation and have determined that the incident unfolded as a witness took photos of individuals that were seen pulling at branches and damaging a park tree," Moskaluk says. "Two of three individuals turned their attention toward the complainant who was then allegedly punched in the face."

The release doesn't explain why it took so long to release the information.

Police are looking to identify the man in the photo. If you can help, please contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
