Vernon man killed in single-vehicle crash on rural road

A 48-year-old Vernon man has died following a single-vehicle crash that took place on a rural North Okanagan road this past weekend.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the incident took place at roughly 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Corkscrew Road in Spallumcheen.

Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in an email that officers were called to the scene and were told by a witness that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Corkscrew Road, failed to negotiate a sharp turn. The vehicle left the road and the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was ejected.

RCMP said life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The B.C. Coroner's Service along with an RCMP Collision Analyst was called to assist with the investigation which is ongoing at this time.

RCMP confirmed the man was a 48-year-old Vernon resident.

"The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP offer our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased and all those who were affected by this tragedy," const. Terleski said.
