VERNON - A Vernon man died Friday when the Cessna he was flying crashed shortly after taking off from a Hamber Provincial Park lake, located west of Jasper.

Yves Rene, 62, was the pilot and sole occupant of the 182 foot float plane that had recently landed at Fortress Lake, located in a high altitude region of the park. The plane's emergency transmitter signal began broadcasting at 1:45 p.m., July 26.

A search and rescue team was deployed and Rene was found dead at the scene.

The family of Rene have been notified of his death.  B.C. Coroners Service, Transportation Safety Board and RCMP are all investigating this death.
