A violent sex offender currently wanted by Vernon police for pointing a handgun at someone has made the peculiar move of commenting on his own RCMP wanted poster.

Michael Hans Bopfinger replied to a derogatory comment made by a member of the public on a Facebook post from Vernon North Okanagan RCMP asking for the public's help in locating him.

The commentator wrote, "What a beauty" under a photo of the 300 lbs bald and bearded 47-year-old.

Bopfinger replied: "You don't know anything about the hole (sic) situation."

It took Vernon RCMP two days to spot the comment and then it replied with, "Hi Mike Bopfinger. We've been trying to find you."

The RCMP goes on to tell Bopfinger that it would appreciate it if he would turn himself in.

"That way, we can sit down and hear what you have to say," the RCMP replied.

Vernon RCMP originally put out the warning saying it was looking for Bopfinger July 25 after he allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman in a parking lot.

The RCMP said the pair had an "altercation" in an apartment complex parking lot in the 3700 block of 27 Avenue.

Police said Bopfinger is considered violent and should not be approached.

Bopfinger is currently wanted for an alleged assault, uttering threats, and several firearms offences, but he has a lengthy criminal record.

In 2011, when he was living in Lumby, he was convicted for a string of violent attacks on Vernon sex workers.

According to the Province, in three separate incidents, Bopfinger confined sex workers in his vehicle and sexually and physically assaulted them before leaving them naked and beaten in a rural area.

One victim almost choked to death.

He was sentenced to 11 years in jail.

He made headlines again in 2017 when he failed to return to a halfway house in Vancouver and was arrested on Vancouver Island.
