Vernon man arrested for assaulting Good Samaritan

A 49-year-old Vernon man was arrested yesterday, July 23, after a Good Samaritan who was trying to intervene in an alleged assault was himself assaulted.

The incident took place in the 13900 block of Kal Lake Road at around 4 p.m.  Police received reports of a machete at the scene and upon arrival found two men and a woman that had been involved in the incident, according to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release.

"A motorcyclist, passing through the area, witnessed a male allegedly assault a woman and pulled over to render her assistance," RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said in a media release. "Upon intervening, the Good Samaritan found himself in an altercation with the suspect male, resulting in minor injuries to both parties."

No weapons were found to have been used, however, one man did have a machete in his possession. The woman who was with the man was not physically injured during the incident.

The Vernon man was arrested on two counts of assault and is scheduled to appear before the court on a future date.
