A 23-year-old Vernon man was caught driving recklessly in two vehicles and they were both impounded last night.

A Vernon RCMP officer saw a car driving more than 100 km/h through residential streets around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, March 7, according to an RCMP press release.

The officer pulled the car over and fined the driver a total of $1,569 for excessive speed, failing to display a N, failing to stop at a stop sign, driving contrary to restrictions, failing to signal and crossing a double solid line, and operating an uninsured vehicle. RCMP don't say what kind of vehicle they had towed and impounded for seven days.

“But wait. There’s more,” RCMP said in the release.

At 2:25 a.m. officers received a report about an erratic driver around Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Mounties tracked the car down and saw it speeding. Officers followed the car until it pulled into a driveway and it turned out to be the same driver they caught earlier that night. Police don't say what kind of car it was.

He received another list of fines adding up to $788 for failing to display N, failing to produce a driver's license, and operating a vehicle with no insurance.

The man’s total fines for the night added up to $2,357 and the second car was also impounded.

“It’s ridiculous to see this type of behaviour and there’s no excuse for it,” Const. Chris Terleski, said in the release.

“The fines issued are only the initial step in the process and the man could potentially face additional sanctions from the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.”
