VERNON - A Vernon family's son is suffering serious medical problems hundreds of miles from home.

Matthew Araujo was travelling in Portugal when he had a serious fall on July 1. According to a GoFundMe page set up for him, he suffered a broken tailbone, pelvis, and several vertebrae, along with a severely fractured foot.

He's currently staying at a hospital in Portugal with no medical insurance. His parents, Janet and Luiz Araujo from Predator Ridge, flew out to see him. The GoFundMe page says they plan to air ambulance him home to B.C. for further treatment once he's stable.

The GoFundMe page was set up to help pay for the travel costs. As of this writing it's raised over $20,000 in two days.
