A Vernon doctor has been suspended for three months after he hired a patient to work for him and then had a sexual relationship with them.

According to an April 1 College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC decision, Dr. Craig Scott Jackson admitted to the regulator that he'd employed the patient and then had a relationship with them.

"The (regulator) was critical of (Dr. Jackson's) admitted conduct and concluded that engaging in a personal and sexual relationship with a former patient presented a significant breach of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC practice standards," the decision read.

The doctor also admitted that he had written a prescription for the employee, contrary to the rules.

The decision didn't provide information about how long the relationship lasted or when it took place. It also does not explain how the College became aware that Dr. Jackson had employed a patient and then began a relationship with them.

According to the College, Dr. Jackson graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1994. He practiced at his clinic in Polson Place Mall in Vernon.

According to the BC Medical Services Commission, the doctor was paid $703,416 in the 2023/2024 financial year.

Dr. Jackson will have to undergo an independent medical assessment and have an interview with College staff before he gets his licence back.

The regulator said his licence is suspended for six months from April 1, but will be reduced to three months providing terms and conditions of his suspension are met.

No other information is given in the decision.
