Vernon's Bannister Honda put out a call April 1 for nominations so it could give away a used vehicle to someone who really needed it.

Bannister Honda launched the Giving Back Campaign to help out as they saw firsthand how quickly families were being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

One month later, and with over 100 entries received, staff at the car dealership have given away the first of two vehicles.

“It was incredibly hard to narrow it down,” Bannister Honda partner and general manager Pat Loehndorf said in a media release.

Ultimately, new mom, Sara White was chosen to be the recipient of the Toyota Corolla.

“I can’t describe how much this is going to change our lives. To have such a huge source of worry and stress lifted off my shoulders is just so amazing," White said in the release.

"Their story really hit us hard," Loehndorf said. "I know that this vehicle will really benefit Sara and (baby) Isla."

White had a very complicated pregnancy followed by a very traumatic birth in which both mother and daughter almost didn't survive.

"We know that reliable transportation can be hard to come by during a public health crisis. That’s something I can help with, and we started with a safe, reliable Toyota Corolla to give away to a family who needs it,” Loehndorf said.

A second vehicle is also scheduled to be given away and nominations remain open until May 27.
