VERNON - A Vernon cyclist has died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident last week.
The 38-year-old woman, whose name is not yet being released, was hit by a truck the morning of Thursday, July 2, on 25 Avenue. RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says it appears the woman rode in front of the truck and the driver of the truck was not responsible for the accident.
The woman was riding a child’s BMX bike and Molendyk says she was not wearing a helmet. She was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, and she succumbed to her injuries July 3.
The truck is undergoing a routine mechanical inspection. No charges are expected to be laid in connection with the accident.
The incident has now been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
