VERNON - After a decade as a councillor in Vernon, Juliette Cunningham won't be running again this fall.

Cunningham made the announcement in a press release Sept. 5 stating that after months of consideration she'd made the "difficult decision" not to run again.

Cunningham has sat on council for three consecutive terms, is the chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee and a Regional District of North Okanagan director. Coun. Cunningham says the Master Water Plan, the Master Cultural Plan, the twinning of Kal Tire Place, the Okanagan Rail Trail, Vernon becoming responsible for Recreation Services, and the city taking back the control of local parks as her most significant accomplishments as advisory committee chair.

"It is no secret that I have been a champion of community development and am proud that city council has recognized the value of social planning and the services it provides to the city, including programs and initiatives to address homelessness, childcare, attainable housing, and many more," says Cunningham in the release.

The veteran councillor says one of the biggest achievements for council has been the 1.9 per cent infrastructure levy, started in 2013, which will create $7 million to renew ageing infrastructure.
