VERNON - Seven cannabis retail stores could be heading to Vernon if city councillors and provincial regulators approve the pot shop applications.

City staff have recommended council to give the go-ahead for seven non-medical cannabis retail stores in Vernon. Council is set to vote on whether to approve recommendation at their upcoming meeting on Monday, March 25.

If council gives the go-ahead, the cannabis store licence applications will be forwarded to the province's Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch who have the final say.

According to the city's report, letters were sent to all businesses, property owners and occupants within 30 metres of a proposed cannabis store site. For the majority of the applications, the city received several letters in favour, against or with on objection to the proposed stores.

An application for a store at the junction of 53 Avenue and 25 Street received a petition against the application containing 68 signatures, as well as one letter of support and five letters against the proposal.

Here are the locations of the seven cannabis retail outlets up for consideration:

  • 114-5601 Anderson Way
  • 106-4412 27 Street
  • 3004-31 Street
  • 3301-30 Avenue
  • 102-2500 53 Avenue
  • 4513-25 Avenue
  • 2913-30 Avenue
