Vernon Citizen Budget results reviewed by Council

Vernon City Hall

Council received information from the Vernon Citizen Budget survey — which was open for resident input from September 19 to October 14 — at the Regular Open Meeting on Monday. The online budget consultation received 1,181 visitors during that period, with 258 responses.

Respondents were asked if they would increase, decrease or maintain funding for various City services and were provided an opportunity to submit written comments. During the four-week period the survey was available, several trends emerged that Council will consider as part of the upcoming budget deliberations.

The objectives of the Citizen Budget Survey were to provide an opportunity for resident input to the 2017 Budget; to encourage and facilitate greater involvement of residents than has historically occurred with budget planning; to provide broad background information on the City’s budget, by service area, to the public; to provide an easy-to- use, easy-to-access format that is informative and engaging; and to increase awareness and interest about the City’s commitment for public participation.

All respondents who provided a valid email address were automatically entered into a draw to win one of five Vernon Recreation Centre passes and one of 10 gift cards. Winners will be contacted this week.
