PENTICTON - A bizarre collision damaged three vehicles and injured two occupants in Summerland late last week.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release police and emergency vehicles responded to a collision in the parking lot of 9518 Main Street in Summerland around 8:30 a.m. on June 14.

The driver of a Ford Expedition lost control of the vehicle when it began revving uncontrollably, resulting in the driver being unable to stop it from driving across the road where it struck a sign before colliding with two other vehicles in an adjacent parking lot.

Two passengers in the other vehicles sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries while one of the drivers had to be rescued by the Summerland Fire Department.

All vehicles were significantly damaged.

Several witnesses were interviewed but the cause of the vehicle apparently driving out of control has yet to be confirmed.

A mechanical examination is likely to take place.

“At this time in the morning, several students were being dropped off and walking into school. It is very fortunate no one else was injured as a result," Grandy said.
