TAMPA, Fla. - The Latest on the fourth fatal shooting in a Tampa neighbourhood (all times local):

11:40 a.m.

Police say they are using a SWAT team and dogs to search a Florida neighbourhood for a possible serial killer after a fourth victim was gunned down.

Tampa interim Police Chief Brian Dugan told reporters Tuesday that detectives can't be certain the early morning shooting of 60-yar-old Ronald Felton is related to last month's 10-day spree that claimed three lives in the city's Seminole Height's neighbourhood, but officers are treating it like it is.

He said he believes the suspect lives in the neighbourhood and asked residents to stay inside until the search is completed.

Felton was fatally shot just before 5 a.m. by a gunman who ambushed him from behind as he crossed a street.

The three earlier victims were shot for no apparent reason after getting off a bus alone. None was robbed.

The fourth victim to be shot dead in a Florida neighbourhood was an unemployed construction worker who volunteered at a food bank.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that 60-year-old Ronald Felton volunteered several times a week at a Seminole Heights food bank near where he was gunned down just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, possibly by a serial killer.

Cynthia Murray told the newspaper Felton had been living with her and would often arrive at the food bank at 2:30 a.m. to help.

Police have sealed off the neighbourhood and were searching for the suspect. They say the gunman walked up behind Felton as he crossed a street and fired.

Three people were slain in Seminole Heights last month in a 10-day span. All three were alone and had gotten off a bus when they were gunned downed at night for no apparent reason. None was robbed.

Tampa police say they immediately set up a perimeter Tuesday morning around the Seminole Heights neighbourhood after finding the body of 60-year-old Ronald Felton.

They say Felton was crossing the street to meet someone when a gunman came up behind him and shot him.

Spokesman Steve Hegarty said detectives can't immediately say whether the shooting is related to last month's killings where three people were slain during a 10-day span.
