JEFFERSON, Ohio - Soap opera actor Freddie Smith has been charged with felony vehicular assault and misdemeanour driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash that injured his girlfriend in northeast Ohio.
The 26-year-old "Days of Our Lives" actor lost control of his car on a curve in Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO'-luh) County on Oct. 7 and ended up in a culvert, causing his car to flip over.
Authorities say Smith, who was visiting his Ohio hometown, was legally drunk at the time of the accident, with a blood-alcohol level of .093. The legal limit in Ohio is .08.
Smith's attorney declined to comment.
Twenty-seven-year-old actress Alyssa Tabit of North Hollywood, California, was trapped in the car and was seriously hurt. She is recovering.
Smith suffered minor injuries.
