WASHINGTON - Republicans have failed to unseat Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire, but they are putting up a strong fight for control of the Senate.
Shaheen defeated Republican Scott Brown, the former Massachusetts senator who moved to New Hampshire in an effort to return to the Senate.
Republicans have gained three of the six seats they need for a Senate majority, with victories in Arkansas, South Dakota and West Virginia.
Key contests remain undecided in Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina and Virginia.
Republicans retained a Senate seat in Nebraska, where college president Ben Sasse won election.
