The Latest: Possible Senate challenger 'looking for a fight'

JACKSON, Miss. - The Latest on a possible U.S. Senate bid by a Mississippi candidate who ran in 2014 (all times local):

6:25 p.m.

A Mississippi state lawmaker is hinting strongly that he will challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker this year.

Chris McDaniel lost a bitter race to Mississippi's other Republican U.S. senator, Thad Cochran, in 2014.

McDaniel said in a live presentation Monday night on Facebook that he will hold a political event Wednesday in his hometown of Ellisville. He says: "We're looking for a fight."

McDaniel did not say what the event will be, but told viewers that "you can probably read between the lines."

He never conceded his 2014 Republican primary loss to Sen. Thad Cochran. The race grabbed national attention after a McDaniel supporter entered a nursing home without permission and photographed Cochran's wife, who was bedridden with dementia. Images of her appeared briefly online. McDaniel said he had no connection to the incident.
